Ranganathan's Five Laws:
Books are for use.
Books are for all; or Every reader his book.
Every book its reader.
Save the time of the reader.
A library is a growing organism.

I'm playing around at Shelfari, LibraryThing, and Good Reads. I've set up links to my pages on these sites. And, yes, I have a hard time keeping up-to-date on these sites...
I've set up "shelves" from these sites on Overbooked - here
Overbooked is spacing out: Myspace: Overbooked and Crime Space - and, facing out: Facebook profile.

Overbooked specializes in providing timely information about fiction (all genres) and readable nonfiction. Overbooked has been online since 1994. Overbooked is a volunteer project in progress . . .

Page Modified: December 31, 2008
Some of the major hardcover titles (and a few paperbacks) scheduled for release in the U.S. All information is subject to change and dyslexic typos. Alphabetically arranged by author. A star indicates the book received at least one starred review (indicating that review source felt the title was exceptional) from the following sources: Booklist, Publisher's Weekly (PW), Kirkus, and Library Journal (LJ). First novel information is derived from a variety of sources and may not be comprehensive.
Notable listings include selected award nominees
and winners, New York Times Book Review Notable books, Washington Post

2008 has been a hard year for me professionally and personally.
Work has been challenging as my library department contends with a wide range of projects, staff shortages, budget issues - well, you get the picture. I'm grateful to work with a brilliant bunch of folks who are creative and hard working. One of the bright spots for the CCPL Collection Management team is that we've added libary cat Nyx our mix.
Personally, my father Jay L. Chambers, was contending with dementia for the past several years. While he lost much of his memory, he never lost his kindness, consideration for others, his intelligence or his sense of humor. He was still able to enjoy music, though he had lost much of his ability to play flute or keyboards. Our family was able to spend time together this year, including a three week Transatlantic cruise from November 21 to Dec 13th. My father suffered a massive heart attack on Dec 16 and died on Dec 17th. His wife, my sister Carol and I were present when he died.
I look forward to 2009 and all the challenges and pleasures to come...
"Give us love, strength, courage and understanding to serve to the best of our ability". (one of my father's favorite blessings)

I really appreciate all the e-mail I receive from avid readers and writers and regret that I am not able to respond to all correspondents. Special thanks to those folks who regularly help keep me on track - you know who you are....
In memory of Jay L. Chambers: 1923-2008. Much loved, much missed.
