Dying For You by Geraldine Evans
Dying for You
DI Rafferty's up to his neck in it yet again. Only this time, the danger is greater than merely being drummed out of the police force. Much greater. As chief suspect - unbeknownst to his colleagues - in his own double murder inquiry, he risks a life sentence.Increasingly conscious of his lonely state, Rafferty had signed up with the Made in Heaven dating agency, using a false identity. What he hadn't bargained on was that the first two women with whom he had struck up a rapport should wind up murdered - and with himself, or, rather, his alter ego, Nigel Blythe, in the frame for the crimes.
At least the alias has bought him some valuable time - it's the only bright element on the entire horizon. But will the alias and the disguise he has since found it necessary to adopt be enough to enable him to carry out the investigation? And will the extra time he's bought prove sufficient for him to find the girls' real killer before the finger of suspicion is pointed at him?
· Review Quotes/Appeal Factors:
'Evans brings wit and insight to this tale of looking for love in all the wrong places.' KIRKUS REVIEWS (Starred review)'Proficient writing, an inventive plot and Evans' usual well-crafted procedural detail make this sixth entry in the Rafferty series a good choice for readers who can't get enough of British coppers.' EMILY MELTON, BOOKLIST
'This is a very enjoyable read with a plot that moves at a good pace, is full of surprises, has lots of humour and a very satisfactory denouement. Highly recommended.' MYSTERY WOMEN
· What is it about this book that would appeal to a reader?
If you're weary of serial killers and long for crime novels that try to amuse and entertain, the Rafferty & Llewellyn series could be just your thing.
· What other books are like it?
Other writers who use humor in their crime novels, and who might, perhaps, be compared, are Cynthia Harrod Eagles, Reginald Hill and Janet Evanovich.
· What does this work have in common with other works in the same genre?
It's a police procedural, and contains the usual elements of procedure and forensics.
· How is this work different from other works in the same genre?
There's a humorous sub-plot running alongside the main plot which generally involves Rafferty in some trouble or other.
· What would you like readers to know about you/your work?
I'd like them to know that I'm more interested in entertaining them than frightening them with yet another serial killer and his/her grisly doings.
· What’s next, what can readers look forward to in the future?
In December 2004, Severn are due to publish Bad Blood the seventh in the Rafferty & Llewellyn series. I have just (August 2004) signed a contract for a further two Rafferty & Llewellyn novels.

· Anything you’d like to ask readers?
I'd be interested to know if they're tiring of serial killers and would enjoy some light relief in their crime reading.
